Skin Healing and Regenerating Body Butter with Kokum and Essential Oils

Share Article

The main ingredient of this homemade body lotion is Kokum butter. Kokum butter is native to India where it is well-known for its healing properties. This butter is one of my favorite ingredients for body lotions as it is readily absorbed in the skin. Thanks to its antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties, Kokum butter fights infections, promotes healthy skin cells, and helps relieve pain from arthritis. It also shows excellent results when applied to chapped lips, cracked feet, dry hands, or dry and scaly skin.

Benefits of the other ingredients used:

Sweet Almond oil is rich in Vitamin E, a natural antioxidant that helps heal sun damage, reduce the signs of aging, and fade scars. Thanks to its high content in Vitamin A and its antibacterial properties, Almond oil is excellent at treating acne. It soaks in quickly and is a powerful moisturizer.

Honey, especially Manuka honey, is great for acne and scar treatment; it has clarifying and anti-aging properties; it also gives a real boost to skin complexion thanks to its moisturizing and soothing properties.

CloveGinger and Nutmeg essential oils reduce swelling in joint and muscle aches, while Vanilla reduces nervous tension and promotes relaxation.

Ingredients & Instructions

Melt Kokum butter using a double boiler (keep the temperature as low as possible). Add Sweet Almond oil. Let it cool for about five minutes, then add remaining ingredients. Transfer into an airtight container or a glass jar (I used this 4 oz amber glass jar) and let it cool down completely. The DIY body butter is ready!

Apply regularly to keep your skin hydrated and healthy!

Tip: To repair cracked feet, slather on body butter and put socks on your feet while the butter is still wet. It will help seal in the moisture and provide a more intense treatment.
